A Mass Rally At Basantapur In Kathmandu

Issue 46, November 11, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 9, 2012: the NC held a mass rally at the Basantapur square in Kathmandu to mark the 97th birth anniversary of Ganeshman Singh: the Supreme Leader of the People’s Movement in 1990 that toppled the then despotic Panchayat regime keeping intact the monarch: the head of the despotic regime. If the NC and CPN-UML wanted even in 1990, they could declare Nepal a republic but they had so much love for the despotic monarch they opted to keep him. Consequently, the thousands of patriotic Nepalis needed to spill the blood to make Nepal a Republic in 2006.

Speaking at the rally, the NC leaders showed their arrogance to grab the power indicating they were not for compromising on anything except for the power. They did not indicate even an iota of concern for the impending promulgation of a new constitution for institutionalizing the achievement made by the people in the People’s Movement in 2006.

These so-called leaders did not have any conciliatory tone rather indicated that they were ready to go to any extreme only to dislodge the current government. No doubt, on their side, they have the head of state President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav. Maybe, based on the support of the head of state these NC guys wanted to grab the power and impose their rule in the name of democracy. They have been claiming democrats without having any respect for democracy.

How much money the NC has spent on this rally, nobody knows but judging from the size of the rally, we can guess that at least a few hundred thousands rupees must have been spent, as a large rally held at Tundikhel in Kathmandu cost millions of rupees.
