Deadline For Cabinet Reshuffle

Issue 31, July 31, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 27, 2011: the meeting of the Standing Committee of the UCPN-Maoist held at its Paris Danda headquarters, Koteshwor in Kathmandu today morning has decided to give more time to Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal in view of the opposition of the NC and some CPN-UML leaders to reshuffle the current cabinet to accommodate 24 new members of the UCPN-Maoist. The UCPN-Maoist leaders have set the deadline for Prime Minister Khanal for 8:00 AM today but the prime minister has not be able to do so because of the opposition of his own party leaders and the leaders of the NC.

None of the political analysts has understood the motive for expanding the cabinet to such an extent at the critical time of completing the peace process and the constitution writing and when the Constituent Assembly (CA) is running out of the time to complete these major tasks. Prime Minister Khanal has already committed to quit the office as soon as the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML find a consensus candidate for the office of prime minister. So, the life of the current cabinet is counted in day’s not even weeks. The question is why the UCPN-Maoist cadres are so interested in being in the cabinet of so short life.
