Trash Collection Started From Main City Centers

Issue 05, January 31, 2010

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started collecting trashes piled up at the main city centers on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 because of the shutdown of the businesses of the local governments enforced by their staffs asking the government to meet their demands. The KMC has used bulldozers to lift and load the trashes in the private sector trucks following the decision of the Home and the Local Development Ministries.

The KMC has not been able to lift the trashes piled up at the downtown only as the private sector has a limited capacity to collect and dispose trashes. In addition, the trashes have been accumulated for more than a week; so most of the trashes have remained idle at the city corners and on the streets even disrupting vehicular traffic causing immense displeasure to the side walkers.
