Indicating its cooperation on the integration of the Maoists’ combatants into the Nepal Army, the Nepali Congress (NC) has nominated Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and Dr Minendra Rijal its representatives to Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) set up under the Prime Minister with members such as Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa of United CPN-Maoist, Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam and Bhim Rawal of CPN-UML and Agriculture Minister Jay Prakash Gupta and Mohammad Habibulla of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum. Now, the Committee could work on the integration of the two armies.
On January 16, 2009, senior leaders of the five political parties in the coalition government and of two parties out of the government sat together at the official residence of the Prime Minister to sort out the problems of power-cuts, traffic shutdowns and unruly labor rallies at the factories and so on. Prime Minister Prachanda proposed to make the country free from strikes and shutdowns for at least six months but the two parties out of the government: Nepali Congress and Terai Madhesh Democratic Party ruled out such things to happen.

The Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 has a provision for setting up a NDC with the Prime Minister as its chairman, and Defense Minister and Home Minister as members and three other ministers appointed by the Prime Minister.
The government set April 10, 2009, the day for holding elections for the positions of the members of the Constituent Assembly vacated by the president and the winners in two constituencies.
