CPN-UML Decided For An Election

Issue 30, July 22, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 19, 2012: Standing committee meeting of the CPN-UML yesterday decided only the alternative left was to hold an election either to a new CA or to a parliament to break the current political deadlock, as revival of the CA dissolved on May 27, 2012 was unconstitutional, writes ‘The Himalayan Times’.

“Whether the fresh elections should be held for the Constituent Assembly or for the Legislature-Parliament will be determined only after holding discussions with other major political parties,” said party secretary Shankar Pokharel at the end of the standing committee meeting, writes ‘The Himalayan Times.’ Secretary Pokharel also ruled out the revival of the dissolved CA, as it was neither possible politically nor constitutionally. So, the party directed former CA members that had been calling for revival of the dissolved CA, not to do so.  Secretary Pokharel said that fresh mandate of the people either for the Constituent Assembly or for the Legislature-Parliament was the only way out to break the current political and constitutional deadlock.

CPN-UML had changed its stand on not holding fresh elections, and then decided to agree on holding on either for the CA or for Legislature-Parliament only after the UCPN-Maoist split into two parties on June 18, comments ‘The Himalayan Times’.
