Issue 28, July 10, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 5, 2011: people living in the nearby areas have flocked to the highlands to collect yarshagumba in this year, too, as every year. Even school children have followed their parents and seniors to help collect yarshagumba as this unique highland herb fetches quite high price even at the local market. Large ones fetch Rs 350 per piece and small ones sell at Rs 200 to 250 at the spot where they are collected, ‘Gorkhapatra’ of today writes.

Yarshagumba has high medicinal values. Yarshagumba stimulates sexual life among other things it does according to the traders and pickers. So, Chinese and Japanese crave yarshagumba causing high demands for it. Restaurants serve special high-price soups with yarshagumba.

Every Yarshagumba picker makes at least Rs 50,000 in a season that lasts for two months: July and August. Local village administrations also make fortunes charging the pickers and traders, too.

Yarshagumba is naturally grown plant-cum-insect at the highlands of Nepal.
