Indian Assistance to Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
On August 21, 2009, the state-run Radio Nepal in its 7:00 A.M. morning news has stated that the Indian leaders have committed to provide Nepal with the Nepalese Rs 32 billion worth of assistance for building up infrastructures in Tarai Nepal and for building check-posts, as the Nepal-India Treat has made the provision for increasing the number of entry points from 22 to 27.
According to the accompanying political advisor to the Prime Minister, the current visit of the Prime Minister is politically and economically important, as Indian leaders have agreed on assisting the Government of Nepal in strengthening democracy and in writing a new constitution of Nepal, and on providing Nepal with economic assistant.
The irony is that the Indian leaders have been lethargy to enforce the previous agreements on providing Nepal with economic assistant making even the visiting Prime Minster needed to remind the Indian leaders of not taking up certain projects agreed on in the past. Concerning the strengthening of democracy in Nepal, democratic minded Nepalis would hardly believe in this commitment of the Indian leaders, as the Indian ambassador Rakesh Sood has been recently active in harming democracy in Nepal.
