Fresh Mandate Only Solution To Standoff

February 7, 2013: US Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde called on Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal at the latter's party office in Balkhu yesterday. The US ambassador said that the US was for the fresh people's mandate to protect democracy and resolve the political crisis. Therefore, an immediate consensus on the election was essential, stressed Ambassador Bodde, according to the RSS news of today.

The seventh general convention of UCPN-Maoist held in Hetauda today endorsed Chairman Prachanda’s proposal for constituting a government under the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal for holding elections to a new CA, according to THT ONLINE of today. Speaking at the news briefing, Spokesman for UCPN-Maoist Agni Sapkota said that UCPN-Maoist has already proposed to form an election government under an apolitical person; and he also stated the party would opt for struggle if the opposition were to reject the proposal.

Holding a press conference at the NC central office in Sanepa Yesterday, the Joint Democratic Movement Mobilization Committee said that the movement would be continue until the formation of a consensus government and elections to the Constituent Assembly was guaranteed. 'We earnestly request the general public and media fraternity including all workers, farmers, youths, students, professional community, intelligentsia, artists and business establishment to attend the massive mass rally to be held on February 8 at the open theatre Kathmandu’, reads a press release issued by the opposition parties yesterday, according to the RSS news of yesterday.

In a joint press statement issued yesterday, Chairman of Nepal Nagarik Manch Himalaya Shumsher Rana, Chairman of Nagarik Samaj Nepal Khem Raj Regmi and Chairman of Madhesi Nagarik Samaj Ganesh Kumar Mandal said that a government under the sitting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal was necessary to break the current prolonged political stalemate, according to nepalnews.com news of today.
