Elections Or Not But Power
By KTM Metro Reporter
September 21, 2012: just two days after all major political parties agreeing on going to polls for electing a new CA, members of NC at the meeting held at the residence of the president of the party at Maharajgunj decided that they were not for going to polls if the current government were to continue; so they decided that the prime minister should turn over the power to the NC before going to the polls.
At the same time, other small parties including the Vaidhya Maoist party opposed the decision made by the four major political parties on holding elections to a new CA. They said that the decision made by the four parties was not acceptable to them and they would not abide by the decision.
Most probably in view of the dissenting groups of small political parties, Chairman of Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party Narayanman Bijukchhe had yesterday boldly said that the polls to elect a new CA would not be held.
Spokesperson for UCPN-Maoist Agni Prasad Sapkota said his party had all the reasons to hold the next Constituent Assembly elections, as the incumbent government had achieved major success in the peace process and some other aspects of governance. Spokesperson Sapkota said that the Nepali Congress had lost its claim to form a new government because it did not ensure delivery of a new constitution as per the spirit of the five-point deal, and spokesperson Sapkota also questioned if others did not accept his party’s leadership why should his party needed to accept others’ leadership, according to ‘HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE’.
Leaders of CPN-UML have agreed on the NC leading a next government setting aside the claim for the leadership of the next government. However, UDMF leaders have not agreed on letting the NC leading a next government.
Thus, political leaders have focused their attention on how to grab the power rather than going to the people and getting the people’s mandate for their political stand. NC and CPN-UML leaders could not think of going to the people without having the power, as they have lost the faith in the people supporting them.
