KTM Metro Reporter

Kathmandu, October 15, 2016: with a 15-member entourage of deputy prime minister, secretary and officials, Prime Minister Prachanda has set off for Goa: the Indian resort city to participate in the BRICS-BIMSTEC Outreach Summit to be held for two days starting on Sunday and ending on Monday, October 17, 2016.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inviting some south Asian countries such as Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka most the BIMSTEC signatories to the BRICS-BIMSTEC Outreach Summit has almost put an end to the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) scheduled to be held on November 9 and 10 in Islamabad in Pakistan but India along with Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan refused to attend the SAARC Summit stating the growing tension between India Pakistan caused by the ongoing unrest in Kashmir, and the border shooting between Indian army and the Pakistani army has made it not conducive to attend the summit. SAARC Summit is postponed for an indefinite period.

Prime Minister Prachanda is reaching Goa on Saturday. He was scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the Saturday night and personally turned over the invitation to the Chinese president and would persuade the president to Nepal at the soonest possible time, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatra’ of today. Previously, Deputy Prime Minster Krishna Bahadur Mahara had submitted an invitation letter to Chinese President.

According to the local non-governmental media, President Xi was willing to visit Nepal on the way to Goa but the Nepalese side had said that it was the time of Dashain; most of the State officials would be off duty. President Xi visited Bangladesh instead today.

Chinese news has stated that Nepal has not taken the visit of the Chinese dignitary seriously and has not made preparation for the visit. So, the visit of President Xi has been uncertain. This time whether Prime minister Prachanda would be able to convince the Chinese president of Nepal is serious about the Chinese president’s visit remains to be seen.

Prime Minister Prachanda is also going to meet the top officials of Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and some of those BRICS members’ top officials including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The news on ‘gorkhapatra’ of today stated quoting Deputy Prime Minster holding the portfolio of foreign ministry Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat that the Nepalese delegation would mainly focus on the concerns of the landlocked countries, and on the connectivity.

The Chinese media has stated that Nepal is not serious about China's "One Belt and One Road" initiative. This is the special initiative of the Chinese President. Following this initiative, China could reach Europe, Central Asia, South Asia and South-East Asia as well for business and for various other activities.
