AISC Appoints Balananda Sharma Its Coordinator

Issue 49, December 05, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 30, 2010: at a meeting held at the Office of the Council of Ministers today, members of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) have agreed on appointing Balananda Sharma as the secretariat coordinator of its secretariat ending the controversy over the leadership of the AISC secretariat among political parties. The UCPN-Maoist has been claiming for the position of a coordinator as its PLA members are to be integrated with the Nepal Army whereas the NC and CPN-UML have been for appointing someone with the experience in having worked at the higher level of the Nepal Army. Eventually, the UCPN-Maoist leaders agreed on this issue with the NC and CPN-UML leaders and AISC has now the coordinator and can move on to the integration of the two armies.

Mr. Sharma has served as the Lieutenant General of Nepal Army, and as the force commander of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Height from January 2004 to January 2007.

AISC needs to appoint a Deputy-coordinator to complete the set of its management for integration of the two armies. However, it does not prevent the AISC from going ahead to the integration of the two armies.
