Kathmandu: On July 16, 2017, Commission On Investigation Into Abuse of Authority finally filed a lawsuit against Chudamani Sharma: the suspended Director General of Inland Revenue Department, Lumba Dhoj Mahat: Chairperson of Tax Redemption Commission, and Umesh Prasad Dhakal: member for causing the revenue loss of more than NPR 10 billions waving even the VAT the customers had paid.
The trio of Chudamani Sharma as the member secretary of the Tax Redemption Commission, Lumba Dhoj Mahat as Chairperson, and Umesh Prasad Dhakal as member managed to waive even the VAT collected from the customers not to mention other taxes the business community has to pay.
CIAA published a notice with the pictures of Lumbadhoj Mahat, and Umesh Prasad Dhakal in “gorkhapatra” on June 22, 2017 stating Lumbadhoj Mahat, and Umesh Prasad Dhakal had been on the run; so anybody finding them and seeing them please informed the CIAA using the hotline 107 or informed the nearest police post or station; anybody helping to find them would be rewarded appropriately.
CIAA arrested Sharma: Director General of the Inland Revenue Department from the office on June 2 and has remained under the custody of the CIAA so far for investigation into the abuse of authority he had caused for waving the taxes causing tremendous revenue loss to the nation.
These guys have really abused the authority entrusted them to redeem the taxes but they had betrayed the nation exempting even the taxes the business community committed to pay, and the VAT the customers or consumers had paid. They have directly robbed the State revenue. They deserved the highest possible punishment for the heinous crime they had committed.
