Smart Prime Minister Baburam
By KTM Metro Reporter
October 17, 2011: if Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has been so smart he would have never contribute Rs 3.0 million to the three-day conference of non-resident Nepalis (NRNs) concluded on Friday, October 14, 2011 according to the news posted on nagariknews.com. How could the prime minister dare to waste the money collected from the poor Nepalis to pay the luxury of the so-called NRNs that have been never tired of boasting to contribute to the development of Nepal but doing a little to this end but exploiting the weakness of the government of Nepal.
Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai has ultimately fired his minister Prabhu Sah implicated in the murder of the Hindu activist even after the administration has given Mr. Sah a clean chit and the state prosecutor did not file a case against him at the law court stating the lack of evidences of his involvement in the murder. If the prime minister has been smart enough he would not have waited for the opposition to block the House session demanding to fire the minister.
The opposition particularly NC and CPN-UML needed an excuse to block the House session because they just wanted to divert the attention from completing the peace process and the constitution writing to something else. They got the one and have been blocking the House stating they wanted the government follow the rule of law despite the fact they had never followed the rule of law when they were in the government. Nepalis would really appreciate the actions of the opposition if they could follow the rule of law but Nepalis also would not forgive them if this was only for diverting the attention from completing the peace process and the constitution writing. Nepalis want to complete the peace process and a new constitution rather than the opposition entangling in the petty matters that the police and the court could take care of.
Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai needs to stop Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yang Houlan from being Chinese Rakesh Sood in Nepal. Rakesh Sood was former Indian Ambassador to Nepal engaged in directly or indirectly speaking about the Nepalese affairs. We want the Chinese envoy to remain honorable His Excellency Chinese Ambassador to Nepal rather than a man going around trying to find something to speak about. Nepalese prime minister is visiting India what the prime minister does in India might been his concern but speaking what prime minister needs to do will directly interfere in the Nepalese affairs.
We need to appreciate the prime minister for ordering to open the Maitighar-Bhadrakali Road to ease the traffic in Kathmandu. The Nepal Army when it was the Royal Nepal Army had closed it to keep it safe from the rebel attacks. If Dr. Bhattarai is so smart he needs to remove the headquarters of the Nepal Army from the heart of Kathmandu to somewhere else. The army has been encroaching on the civilians making the center of the city as their private property doing so many commercial activities. The Nepal Army has been building one building after another for catering various social ceremonies leaving no open space for the people to breathe.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai needs not work under the pressure of the opposition but needs to work honestly following the rule of law. If he does everything without compromising on the rule of law then he would be a successful prime minister otherwise the opposition would bend him to the extent possible and he would be another unsuccessful prime minister.
The prime minister should work on completing the peace process and a new constitution no matter what the opposition does at the House. Even facing the NC and CPN-UML closing the House forever, the prime minister needs to work on completing the peace process and a new constitution not compromising on these two national tasks anymore. Nepalis will surely punish those guys that want to divert the attention from the national tasks of completing the peace process and a new constitution to the petty matters.
Currently, NC and CPN-UML lawmakers have been obstructing the House session demanding the resignations of Home Minister and Land Reform Minister. The poor land reform minister has already quit but home minister has not. So, the so-called opposition would continue to block the House session until the home minister quits. Then, the opposition will continue to block the House session demanding to revoke the four-point deal the UCPN-Maoist and the UDMF has reached. So, the opposition is set to block the House indefinitely. The smart prime minister needs to act accordingly not yielding to the demand of the opposition for anything. The prime minister would not be able to build a consensus on anything because the opposition wants to act as an opposition not as a partner in completing the peace process and a new constitution.
The smart prime minister can stay on in power as long as the coalition of the UCPN-Maoist and the UDMF remains strong and does not break down. So, these two revolutionary parties that want drastic changes in the Nepalese politics, economy and society need to remain intact to complete the peace process and a new constitution, as the NC and CPN-UML have clearly demonstrated that they are not much concerned with these two nationally important tasks even though leaders of NC and CPN-UML have been parroting to complete the peace process and a new constitution.
