Extending The Term Of UNMIN In Nepal

Issue 15, April 11, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

April 10, 2010: Legislative Committee on International Affairs and Human Rights has directed the government to extend the term of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN). Almost all realistic legislators agree on the need for the presence of the UNMIN in Nepal until the peace process is completed. However, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and his defense minister have been against extending the term of UNMIN and want to confront with the Maoists directly. His defense minister has even said that the UNMIN has been a tail of the Maoists. Thus, the illegitimate ministers made legitimate by the unscrupulous leaders of the eighteen political parties want to extend their own term driving UNMIN out of Nepal and then confront with the Maoists. So, all logical thinking Nepalis want UNMIN to remain in Nepal until the peace process is ended. Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and his ministers have done nothing for completing the peace process during the last ten months. They have indulged in various corrupt activities such printing MRPs in India and auctioning sandalwood not following the rule of law.
