December 14, 2011: China has postponed the visit of Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to Nepal. Prime Minister Wen Jiabao was supposed to visit Nepal in the third week of December but China put it on hold stating he needed to be in China for the urgent work to do at the end of the year.
"The Chinese ambassador to Nepal met with us today and informed that the Chinese Prime Minister would be too busy to visit our country in this month and urged for fixing the visit date a little later," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today quotes Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha holding the portfolio of the Foreign Minister as saying yesterday.
DPM Shrestha has said that preparation for the visit will continue, the advance team has arrived Nepal and the team is still here, he is going to meet the team in this week and set the date for the visit of the Chinese prime minister to Nepal. As the date of the visit of the prime minister has not been set, it has been neither a postponement nor the cancellation of the visit the DPM has said.
Nepalese Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has said that the Government of Nepal is going to sign a BIPPA at the time of visit of Chinese Prime Minister to Nepal. Finance Minister had signed off a BIPPA with India during the visit of Nepalese Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai to India in October 2011. Opposition leaders including Mohan Vaidya ‘Kiran’ of UCPN-Maoist had opposed the government of Nepal signing off the BIPPA with India.
