A Plane Crashed At Jomsom Airport In Nepal

May 16, 2013: a plan carrying 21 passengers mostly the tourists while landing at Jomsom about 200 km northwest of Kathmandu today skidded off the runway, and crashed on the banks of the Kaligandaki River.

 

Among the 22 passengers on board the state-owned Nepal Airlines plane, eight passengers are Japanese tourists; other eleven including an infant are Nepalis and the three-crew members.

 

The twin otter plane took the passengers at Pokhara, and flew to Jomsom

 

"One of the wheels of the plane had problem while landing. The plane skidded off the runway and fell into the Kaligandaki river flowing alongside," Purna Gauchan, an eyewitness said, according to Xinhua.

 

"The seriously injured persons are being flown to Pokhara and persons with minor injuries are being treated at the district hospital in Mustang," Keshav Adhikari, Nepal Police spokesperson told Xinhua.

 

According to RSS, those seriously injured include Captain Deependra Pradhan, co-pilot Suresh KC, airhostess Shanta Maya Tamang and passengers Govinda Pahadi of Parbat and Japanese tourists S Akawa and Khawesa Chiyo. They have been sent to Pokhara for treatment by a Tara Air aircraft, writes ‘The Himalayan Times’ of today.
