First Day Of Dashain Festival In Nepal

October 16, 2012: today is the beginning of the fifteen-day festival called Dashain in Nepal. All Hindu Nepalis have started off the festival doing whatever they have to do following their tradition. 

The Nevah community has sow the barley seeds in their prayer rooms to harvest the seedlings on the tenth day and offer them to Goddess Bhagavati and other deities following the tradition.

Other Hindus have set their holy water jars in their prayers rooms and invoke the goddess Bhagavati. Others simply sow the barley seeds on the floor of their prayer rooms.

Hindu devotees have started off visiting the shrines of goddess Bhagavati at different places for making offerings. Devotees would visit shrines of Goddess Bhagavati for nine days. 

Living Goddess Ekanta Kumari of Bhaktapur has been shifted to the Kumarighar at Pashupati Mahavihar today for worshipping Her daily for eight days from the first day of the Dashain festival, according to the RSS reports. The Living Goddess Ekanta Kumari is offered special worship on the ninth day along with nine other Living Goddeess called Kumaris, writes nepalnews.com

A 76-year-old woman preparing to grow seedlings called ‘Jamara’ on her chest without moving for ten days writes nepalnews.com.

State priests have performed the rituals of sowing barley seeds for growing seedlings called ‘jamara’ following the tradition at the Hanumandhoka Dasain Ghar and at other ancient state houses. Special seedlings are grown for offering to Goddess Bhagavati on the tenth day of the festival.
