Canceling Permission Given To Air Arabia

Issue 51, December 19, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 12, 2010: in the meeting held on Sunday, December 12, 2010, the Committee On International Relations And Human Rights has decided to instruct the government for annulling the permission given to the Air Arabia for the Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur route to operate, ‘The Himalayan Times’ online writes quoting the state-run news agency called RSS.

The committee has served a subpoena to Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharat Singh Bhandari and has instructed him to immediately repeal the decision of the government on giving permission to the Air Arabia for running flights on the Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur route.  The committee members have charged the ministry that the ministry has deliberately given the permission to the Air Arabia to weaken the competitiveness of the state-run national airlines called Nepal Airlines Corporation. The management of Nepal Airlines Corporations has also protested against the government’s decision on permitting the Air Arabia to operate flights on the Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur route. The members of the committee have also directed the minister to improve the management of Nepal Airlines Corporation settling squabbles among the management personnel.

One of the members of the committee has said that Minister Bhandari and the management of Nepal Airlines Corporation have conflicting views on the impact of the Air Arabia operation on the Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur route. While the minister says that the Air Arabia will use the route six times a week only during the hours of less traffic, so, will not affect the Nepal Airlines Corporation. However, everybody knows that granting air routes to airlines is a big business for the minister and the ministry.
