Dr Govinda KC Again In Hunger Strike

KTM Metro Reporter

July 27, 2017

Kathmandu: Orthopedic Dr Govinda KC of Institute of Medicine (IOM), Maharajgunj, Kathmandu has sat for his 11th hunger strike again on Monday, July 24, 2017 demanding to enforce the agreements he has reached with the Ministry of Health, government of Nepal in the past.

In its editorial, “gorkhapatra” of July 26, 2017 stated that Dr KC’s hunger strike has nothing to do with the hospital the IOM has been running rather the notice of his hunger strike has stopped patients coming to the hospital causing the hundreds of thousands of revenue loss making the hospital administration to worry about the funding required for smoothly running it; initially, the government has provided up to 90 percent of expenses but it has been reduced to 60 percent making the hospital to earn 40 percent of its expenses.

How could Dr KC encroach the compound of the IOM hospital, and how could Dr KC as a regular staffer of the IOM sat for hunger strike at his whim causing a tremendous loss to the hospital, and denying health services to the common folks, some political analysts ask.

Another question is whether Dr KC has an approval of the IOM to sit for the hunger strike setting aside his regular official duty, if not, the IOM administration needs to take strong actions against Dr KC for not being a dutiful regular staff, say common folks.

Dr KC has many other public places to sit for his hunger strike. So he needs to leave the IOM hospital compound for the regular health services it has been providing to the patients otherwise it would a simple anarchy caused by a single irrational person, people say.
