President Appreciate Appa’s Role In Creating Awareness Of Climate Change

April 25, 2012: At a function held at the President’s Office Shital Niwas yesterday to appreciate the successful completion of the awareness-creating long-distance trekking undertaken by Appa Sherpa and his team, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has congratulated the 21-time-Everest climber Appa Sherpa and his team members on the successful completion of their 99-day trekking along the Great Himalayan Trek, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
President Dr. Yadav has appreciated Appa Sherpa and his team for undertaking the remarkable mission of trekking along the mid hills and mountains for creating the awareness of changing climate that has been adversely affecting the lives and even endangering the lives of the people living in the Himalayan watershed areas, and pledged to continue his support for such missions in future, too.
Appa has scaled the highest peak Sagarmatha or Everest for 21 times, and recently undertook the 1,450-km-long trekking that started in Taplejung and ended in Darchula. It took his team and him 99 days to complete the long-distance trekking. The mission has dual objectives: one to draw the attention of the international community to the climate change in the mountains of Nepal, and another to publicize the long-distance trekking in Nepal.
