Merger of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Janashakti Party

President of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Pashuati Shumsher J. B. Rana has clasped hand with the President of Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) Surya Bahadur Thapa in a gesture of merging the parties they have head into a single party called Rastriya Shakti Prajatantra Party (RPP) on February 6, 2010. The abbreviation of the new party will remain as RPP. They just add ‘shakti’ to the old name to make it a new one.
Speaking to the anchor of the morning program called ‘antar sambad’ of the state-run Radio Nepal on February 7, 2010, Mr. Rana has said that both the leaders of the two parties have merged their parties to a single party faithfully rising above their personal interest in view of the need for facing the new political realities in Nepal and of the defeat in the polls.
Bishwo Bandhu Thapa will work on the process of unifying the two parties at various levels. Mr. Rana and Mr. Thapa will hold the presidency of the new party in rotation for a year.
At the same time, leaders of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-Nepal) another breakaway party have said that they have been approached for a merger.
