Nepal For Signing Off BIPPA With China

December 13, 2011: speaking at the Rautahut Trade Festival, Minister for Finance Barsaman Pun has yesterday said that the government of Nepal is going to sign Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection (BIPPA) with China during the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao next week, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Nepal had signed off BIPPA with India during the visit of Nepalese Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to India in October 2011. Opposition leaders except for the NC but including the Vaidya group of UCPN-Maoist had vehemently opposed the BIPPA signed off with India saying it would hamper the national investors. However, the federal organization of the business community FNCCI had welcomed the BIPPA.

Minister for Finance Barsaman Pun has said that Nepal would sign BIPPA with other countries to increase the foreign investment. Thus, the Maoists are determined to attract foreign investments in Nepal as much as possible.
