Judge Karki Suspended From Duty

July 16, 2010: the Judicial Council chaired by Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Nepal Ram Prasad Shrestha has suspended Hetauda Appellate Court Judge Tejbahadur Karki from duty on July 15, 2010 after finding he had released the criminals that could not be released on bail in the last year according to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of July 16, 2010.
Three people involved in kidnapping the Executive Director of Bharatpur Cancer Hospital Dr. Bhaktaman Shrestha have told the police that they have kidnapped him for having the money to pay Judge Karki for releasing their colleagues accused of kidnapping when he was the judge at the Kathmandu District Court last year. The police have found that Judge Karki had released the criminals on bail although they needed to be kept in custody following the law last year.
