Maha Shiva-ratri (The great day of Lord Shiva)

On March 06, 2008, Hindus all over the world celebrated the great day of Lord Shiva.
In Kathmandu hundreds of thousands of Nepalis and pilgrims from across the southern border visited the temple to Lord Pashupati: one of the many names of Lord Shiva.

On this day and night smoking marijuana is free on the premises of the temple to Lord Shiva. So, many youths took this opportunity of enjoying the pot of marijuana on the premises of the temple. Ascetics coming from various parts of Nepal and India also enjoy the smoking of marijuana during their weeklong stay on the premises of the temple to Lord Pashupati.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala as the interim head of state made an official visit to Lord Pashupati and made an offering to the lord taking a minimum possible time: 10 minutes.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala authorized the Branch Office of the Guthi Sansthan to distribute the alms on behalf of the state to ascetics on the auspicious day of Maha Shiva-ratri.
