People Bracing Up For Nepal Shutdown Tomorrow

Issue 51, December 18, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 18, 2011: Nepalis have braced up for the Nepal shutdown called by the NC tomorrow. They have cancelled or postpone their engagements, rescheduled their tasks, cancelled long-distance travel, and many staffs have signed up for a leave rather than risking to travel to the workplace. So, the entire country would come to a complete standstill tomorrow if the NC does not call off the shutdown it has planned for tomorrow for protesting the death of its Chitwan Tarundal Chief Shiva Poudel.

The NC has formed a ‘peaceful shutdown coordination committee’ making its central member Deepak Giri a coordinator, other central members such as Nabindraraj Joshi and Mahendra Yadav as the members of the shutdown committee, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.

In view of the NC cadres and cadres of its sister organization terrorizing the commuters and common folks on the streets yesterday, we cannot rule out the shutdown will be not a violent one. Yesterday, the NC cadres had burned down tires on the streets causing health hazards to millions of people residing in Kathmandu and other major towns. The NC had committed that its cadres would never burn tires on the streets but we saw yesterday the burning of tires wildly and fearfully on the streets thanks to the NC cadres.
