ADB Providing Nepal With Rs 2.45 Billion For Administrative Improvement

December 27, 2012: Joint secretary and Chief of the International Economic Cooperation and Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance Madhu Kumar Marasini on behalf of the Government of Nepal, and Country Director, Nepal Resident Mission Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mr. Kenichi Yokoyama signed off a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ADB providing Nepal with a grant assistance of approximately Rs 2.45 billion to the Government of Nepal for the implementation of the Strengthening Public Management Program at the Ministry of Finance today, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com.

The Government of Nepal has expressed its sincere appreciation of the ADB’s grant, and hoped for the continued support for the economic as well as infrastructural development in Nepal.

The main objective of this program is to enhance the efficiency, transparency and integrity of the public expenditures at the national and sub-national levels.

The expected outputs of the program are improved local budget and fiscal management, strengthened sub-national fiduciary risk management, enhanced public procurement system, and strengthened institutions of oversight and accountability.

The Program is for making critical public financial management and fiduciary reforms at the national and sub-national levels in enhancing budgeting and expenditure management and fiscal sustainability at the sub-national level, reducing fiduciary risks at the sub-national level, enhancing the transparency, economy and efficiency of public procurement at the national and sub-national level, and strengthening the capacity of oversight and accountability institutions, according to the RSS.
