Chhatha Festival Celebration

October 31, 2011: Maithali people have started off the Chhatha festival: one of the greatest festivals of the Mithila region on Sunday, October 30, 2011 across Nepal and some parts of northern India. They celebrate Chhath for four days starting on the fourth day of bright fortnight of Kartik and ending on seventh day.

On the first day of the festival, the devotees take a holy dip in nearby water sources for purifying their bodies. On the second day, the women devotees fasting the whole day prepare pure food and share the food with the family members and relatives.

On the third day, women devotee assembly at the water sources in the afternoon and make offerings to the setting sun and remain there the whole night. On the morning of the fourth day, they make offerings to the rising sun and conclude the festival.
