Indian Secretary Foreign Ministry In Kathmandu

On September 14, 2009, Indian Secretary to Foreign Ministry Nirupama Rao has arrived in Kathmandu for a two-day visit. On arrival she met with the President, Foreign Minister, Secretary to Foreign Ministry, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, and Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist Jhalanath Khanal.

After the meeting with Indian Secretary to Foreign Ministry, Nepalese Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala has told the reporters that she has had talks with the Indian Secretary concerning the enforcing of the 34-point understanding reached with the Indian government during the visit of Nepalese Prime Minister to India.

Indian Secretary Nirupama Rao has also met with Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala and has inquired about the ongoing peace process and writing of a new constitution; in reply Nepali Congress President Koirala has said that writing of a new constitution will be completed in time and the peace process will also be completed, have only a few minor problems according to Dr. Suresh Chalise of the Nepali Congress.

In the meeting with Chairman Khanal, Indian Secretary Nirupama Rao has repeated the questions of the peace process and writing of a new constitution, and has said that India is willing to assist in both the writing of a new constitution and the peace process according to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of September 15, 2009.
