Concerns of National Human Rights Commission

On February 22, 2010, Chairman and members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) have interacted with the security personnel at the office of the NHRC to make clear that the NHRC has received many complaints about the killing of people held in custody of the security personnel; the security personnel have been involved in non-judicial killings according to the news ran on the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of February 23, 2010.

Chairman of NHRC Kedarnath Upadhaya has said that the killing of people held in custody of the security personnel has been the serious violation of human rights although the security personnel could use the force to protect the human rights and to maintain peace and security. Chairman Upadhaya has said to the security personnel that the NHRC has received complaints about the security has been using excessive force; these are the matters of serious concerns.

Member of NHRC Gauri Pradhan has said that the NHRC has received the complaints about the fifty non-judicial killings by the security personnel during the last two years; the NHRC has confirmed 13 of those incidents by its own investigation into the complaints and has made recommendations for the necessary actions. Mr. Pradhan has said that the security personnel are responsible for stopping the violation of human rights; so the security personnel need to seriously act on preservation of human rights not to mention the violation of it.
