October 5, 2013: today is the first day of the lunar bright fortnight (Aswin sukla pachaya) of Aswin and is the first day of the Dasain festival that ends on the full moon day.
Different communities celebrate this firs day of Dasain in different names. The Nevah community celebrates it in the name of ‘Nala svonegu’ whereas other communities celebrate it in the name of either ‘jamara rakhe’ or ‘ghatasthapana.’
However, the objective of the celebration of the first day of Dasain is the same to sow seeds of buckwheat and grow seedlings for offering to the Goddess Durga Bhavani. Every community sows seeds of buckwheat today to grow seedlings, and then offers them as the flowers to the Goddess Durga Bhavani on the tenth day.
On this day, Nepalis start visiting one Goddess each every morning and evening for nine days. This is called ‘nava-ratri’ festival.
Nepalis have started off making preparations for celebrating this festival. The government through its food corporation has been planning to supply 25,000 goats to control the prices of goats. The government has through the fair shops attempts to provide the supplies for the Dasain festival again to control the prices of the essential goods.
Nepalis in millions are going back home for celebrating the Dasain festival with the family members.
