Sugar Import From Brazil and Thailand

Issue 03, January 17, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

January 11, 2010: Secretary to Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Mr. Purushotam Ojha has said that the government has finalized the decision on importing sugar from Brazil and Thailand to mitigate the shortage of sugar in Nepal according to the government-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of January 11, 2010.

The government headed by Madhav Nepal defeated in two constituencies has been saying it is importing sugar from Brazil and so on since Madhav Nepal became the Prime Minister. However, the government headed by flunky Prime Minister has done nothing so far except for increasing the price of sugar from around Rs 50 per kg to Rs 90 now.

Some market analysis have said that the current government of Madhav Nepal in conjunction with the sugar mill owners has been deliberately creating shortage of sugar as the shortage of other foodstuff to pocket a huge sum of money from such a deal.
