Voters’ Identity And Citizenship Questions

Issue 41, October 10, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 6, 2010: Officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has urged the leaders of the Madheshi political parties that have been up in arms against the voters’ identity distribution campaign the Election Commission has launched in the Tarai areas, not to obstruct the voters’ identity distribution according to the local media.

The election commission is distributing voters’ identity cards based on the citizenship certificates. Madheshi leaders have said that most of the Madheshis have not received citizenship certificates; most of the eligible voters will be deprived of voting. The question is why the Madeshi leaders need to stop the Election Commission from distributing voters’ identity rather they need to get the certificates of citizenship.

Officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has also said that if the Madheshi leaders see any problems of citizenship then they need to come op with a clear problem so that the government can address it easily. He has also said that the new voter registration program is directly linked with the national identity cards so any Nepalis need not stop.
