Blaming Others For Their Own Faults

March 23, 2012: The Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) at its meeting held yesterday decided to give the PLA members a chance of opting for integration or retirement or rehabilitation in order to reduce the number of PLA opting for the integration from 9,705 to 6,500: the agreed number of PLA for integration the four power centers such as UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML and UDMF agreed on a deal signed off on November 01, 2011. The AISC also has instructed its Secretariat to prepare a report on the procedure, methods and standards of army integration involving members of the AISC, the NA and the PLA within five days. "As per the 7-point agreement, only 6,500 are supposed to be integrated. But there are 9,705 combatants who have opted for integration, now they will be given a chance to choose between the two packages again." Chief Secretary and spokesperson for the AISC Madhav Ghimire informed the reporters after the meeting at the AISC office in New Baneshwor, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of March 23, 2012 writes.

Speaking at the function held in Kathmandu yesterday to launch a book titled ‘Girijababu’ to commemorate the late NC leader Girija Prasad Koirala, House Speaker Subash Nemwang said that disputes among the political parties had cast a shadow over the historic tasks of peace and constitution writing process, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of March 23, 2012 writes. He said that the number of political parties represented in the parliament was only 25 when they were elected but now the number has reached to 33 due to the split of parties.

Speaking at the same platform, President of NC Sushil Koirala blamed the Maoists for not enforcing many aspects of the agreements: from the 12-point Understanding to the latest Seven-point agreement. The NC president rejected the blame that has been placed on his party for obstructing the peace and constitution writing process from moving ahead. "The seven-point agreement is the last agreement with the Maoists, we will have no more agreements for peace and constitution again," he declared, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of March 23, 2012 writes.

Maoist leader acting as the spokesperson for PLA Chandra Prakash Khanal rejected the blame labeled on his party for stalling the peace process. "History bears a witness to the fact that our party has been adopting maximum flexibility for concluding the peace and constitution building process. It is baseless to blame us for the stalemate as political agreement and decisions are needed in every aspect," he said, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
