Timely Crafting of a New Constitution

October 14, 2009, Deputy Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal, Acting President of NC Sushil Koirala and Chairman of MPRF Upendra Yadav are seen sitting on the same platform to address the Second Day of Non-Resident Nepalis’ (NRN’s) Convention on ‘Constitutional Process and Prosperous Nepal’. All of them have committed to write a constitution on time.

Addressing the convention, Dr. Bhattarai has said that the Constituent Assembly will write a new constitution within the deadline set for it. He has also said that the new constitution will have the provision for all democratic norms with a multiparty system, and for all people having equal access to national resources. He has also said that his party has been trying to ensure the consensus politics.

Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has also said that his party will make every possible effort on writing a new constitution on schedule, as democracy will not be institutionalized without writing a new constitution.

Acting President of NC Sushil Koirala has said that the peace process depends on writing a new constitution, so writing of a new constitution is the most important task.

Chairman of MPRF Upendra Yadav has said that the task of writing a new constitution has been getting delayed because of the squabbling of leaders for power.

At the same time, leaders of the three major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC, and CPN-UML have agreed on setting aside their differences and expediting the writing of a new constitution.
