By KTM Metro Reporter

May 12, 2012: Americans are celebrating a ‘Mother’s Day:’ the day for revering mothers on Sunday, May 13, 2012. Children have been busy with preparing their own cards for presenting to their mothers, retailers and venders have intensified their ads of gifts to mothers in newspapers and on the Internet.

Koreans have celebrated their Mother’s Day on Saturday, one day before the Americans celebrate. They have their own stories of how they celebrate the Mother’s Day.

Nepalis have celebrated their Mother’s Day on April 21, 2012: the no-moon day in April. They celebrate Father’s Day on the no-moon day in August. It is not known yet when Nepalis have started off celebrating these two important days but it is for sure that they have been celebrating these two events since thousands of years.

During these two days, Nepalis keep the sweet stores very busy, as they buy sweets for their parents to offer on these days. All siblings sit together to offer the sweets to their parents usually in the evening. Currently, some people have started off buying gifts rather than sweets, as some sweets stores have been selling adulterated sweets.

For them who have lost their parents these days are memorial days for going to the places whether they believe that their souls come, and make offerings to their souls. Deceased mothers come to Matatirtha to meet their sons and daughters where as deceased father go to Gokarne to accept the offerings of their offspring.
