Father’s Day In Nepal

Issue 36, September 8, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 5, 2013: today is the no moon day in Bhadra (August/Sept), the day Nepalis celebrate the Father’s Day. Sons and daughters have been busy with buying sweets, yogurt, and fruits from the early morning today.

Married daughters go to the father’s home with a load of sweets, yogurt and fruits. All daughters and sons gather around their father. Everyone in turn presents a plateful of sweets, fruits and yogurt. Fathers in turn bless their sons and daughters.

Sons and daughters that have lost their fathers to death go to Gokarna to make offerings to Lord Gokarnnesvore: another name of Lord Shiva. Some sons perform ‘sradha’ to the souls of their departed fathers

Sons and daughter that could not make to Gokarna, take showers in the morning, and offer a plateful of sweets, and fruits to priests in the names of their departed fathers.
