Issue 10, March 10, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 6, 2013: speaking at the mass rally held at the Phugling Bazaar of the Taplejung district yesterday, NC President Sushil Koirala said that the Maoists have not been serious about holding elections to a new Constituent Assembly (CA) in June this year. He claimed that he had proposed to extend the term of the election commissioners to ease holding elections but the Maoists put forward the formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission causing disagreement. NC President Koirala said that even though forming a new government under the Chief Justice is wrong but it is necessary to oust the current government. He also said that a consensus with the Maoists could not be built until they return the seized property, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

Speaking at the closed session of the Ninth Convention of the CPN-UML-Jhapa held at Dhulabari in Jhapa yesterday, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal said that even though the proposal for forming a government under the Chief Justice has come from the general convention of the Maoists, all political leaders agreed on it thinking it is the only alternative to the current political deadlock, and it is to end the dictatorial thinking of the Maoists. The country could not take a right political direction due to the extremism of the UCPN-Maoist and the status quo of the NC, Chairman Khanal said, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Nepal has decided to hold the hearing on the case filed against forming a new government under the Chief Justice at the Special Bench in view of the gravity of the case after March 13, 2013, as the Supreme Court has asked the defenders to submit their explanations by this date; at the same time, the Supreme Court has quashed the contempt of court case filed against the Chief Justice, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today. So, formation of a new government under the Chief Justice would be postponed until the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nepal on this case.
