Economic Program in Disarray

Issue 19, May 10, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The Government of Nepal has informed the donor agencies about the suspension of the Nepal Development Forum to be held soon before the Prime Minister tendered his resignation on May 4, 2009.

Most of the economic programs put forward by the coalition government headed by the UCPN-Maoist will be in disarray after the Prime Minister resigned from the position.

The government has worked to complete the Melamchi Drinking Water Project within 52 months. The question is whether the new government will continue it or not. Similarly, the government had initiated actions on the program on building a number of hydropower plants; whether a new government will continue the program or not.

The government has collected the revenue more than the targeted amount. Economists ask whether the new government will properly use the revenue or not.
