Budget For FY 2012 Only After Consensus

Issue 27, July 1, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 25, 2012: speaking at an interaction held by the Society for Economic Journalists Nepal (SEJON) held in Kathmandu yesterday, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun said that the government was working on unveiling a full-fledged budget for the FY 2012.  He said that the ministry was doing administrative works for presenting the full-fledged budget and also started talks with the political parties for garnering their support for it; however, the opposition political parties have been ruling out the possibility of presenting such a budget by the ‘caretaker government,’ ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes

Minister Pun asked the political parties not to politicize the economic agendas as the country was in dire need for the full-fledged budget to propel the economic development in order to address the aspirations and wishes of people according to ‘The Rising Nepal’. "It is shameful that the political parties have differences on economic agendas. They should have common economic agendas for at least 5-10 years," ‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes the finance minister as saying, "We cannot avoid the budget. But as there has been a wrong tendency among the political parties to oppose the budget when they are not in power."

“The government was committed to present the next budget after having a political consensus of all the political parties; to this end, I have already started talks with the senior leaders of the political parties, former finance ministers, economists, private sectors," ‘The Rising Nepal’ quotes the Finance Minister as saying.
