BY KTM Metro reporter in Kathmandu

Three Nepalese buses of Araniko Yatayat of Nepal carrying mostly elderly people in couples took them pilgrimage to Badrinath in India. They were traveling back home when one of the three buses suddenly skid into Alakanand River at Chamauli, Uttarakhand, India on July 31, 2008. They were supposed to arrive in Nepal on Saturday August 02, 2008. Out of 39 pilgrims traveling on the bus, bodies of 23 pilgrims were recovered and 11 are still missing and five are inured. The rescuers believe that the flooded river must have swept away the missing people. The injured are undergoing treatment at Chamauli Hospital, India.

Most of the dead pilgrims are from Panauti municipality and Kapalkot village of Kavre district. The entire municipality and the village have been mourning for the loss of so many beautiful lives. They received the bodies of loved ones airlifted by army helicopters from Banabasa in Western Nepal to Kathmandu on August 03, 2008.
