NC Offering Colonel But CPN-UML Major To Combatants

March 8, 2012: Speaking at a press meet held by Press Union, Morang in Biaratnagar, yesterday, President of NC Sushil Koirala has said that the army integration process has been stalled because the Prime Minister has not called the meeting of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC); consequently, the peace process could not move ahead without the AISC meeting; the prime minister should table his proposals, if there are any, in the meeting of the AISC; the NC would be flexible to give the positions of up to Lieutenant Colonel to the Maoist combatants, he rejected the Maoists’ demand for three representatives from the combatants in the secretariat, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that he could not offer more than the position of major to the combatants according to the news posted on the website of Nagariknews.com.

These NC and CPN-UML guys have been deadly against giving any positions to the combatants other than the foot soldiers demanding the army integration following the seven-point deal they had reached with the UCPN-Maoist. Now, they have offered the positions of colonel and major indicating the Maoists have taken strong stand on securing such high positions in the Nepal Army.
