Holding Talks with Government And Four-party Mechanism Within Reach

August 5, 2013: chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidya yesterday said that he was happy with the content of the third letter sent by the four-party political mechanism inviting to talks, and said that it created an environment conducive to talks, according to nepalnews.com

 

"No condition has been attached this time around with the letter. It is as per our wish," said Dev Gurung, secretary of the CPN-Maoist also the spokesperson for the 33-party alliance. "The letter has clearly addressed all 33 parties that are co-working with us under an alliance. There is no reason to raise question about the letter anymore. We will now sit for talks at the earliest," nepalnews.com quoted secretary Gurung as saying.

 

The CPN-Maoist and its alliance had rejected the first two letters sent by the four-party political mechanism stating these letters had set conditions for talks.

 

Coordinator of the 33-party alliance Hari Bhakta Kandel said that the meeting of the 33-party alliance held at the Buddhanagar headquarters of the CPN-Maoist yesterday decided to hold talks with the four-party political mechanism, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today. Coordinator Kandel also said that the alliance was ready to talk with both the four-party political mechanism and the government if the government were to meet the demand.

 

According to the Radio Nepal news aired today in the morning, Chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya along with general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ went to the Buddhanilkantha residence of senor leader of NC Sher Bahdur Deuba yesterday. Chairman Vaidhya put up his concerns before Deuba.

 

Senior leader of NC Deuba in turn said that his party and he were ready to amend everything the CPN-Maoist and its alliance wanted provided they were sure to participate in the elections.

 

Talking to the reporters at the International Airport in Kathmandu yesterday before departing for New Delhi for the six-day official visit to India, president of NC Sushil Koirala has said that Nepal needs cooperation from its neighbors to successfully hold the November 19 elections to the Constituent Assembly. He also has said that the elections will not be postponed and that the poll opposing parties including CPN-Maoist have been given seven days to agree on elections. "I am hopeful that all political parties will participate in the polls at the end," nepalnews.com quoted Koirala as saying.
