November 20, 2013: The 10-day shutdown called by the poll-opposing parties headed by the CPN-Maoist has caused vegetables worth lakhs (hundreds of thousands) rupees in the Mahottari district to rot, as the vegetables could not reach the nearby markets following the shutdown in the district, according to the RSS news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
"Though the demand for green vegetables is high in the local market we have not been able to reach our produce there due to the bandh, says Brahma Dev Mahato", a farmer of Pashupatinagar-2 in the district.
The 33-party alliance headed by the CPN-Maoist has called a nationwide shutdown starting on November 11 for ten days to disrupt the elections.
