Political Rallies At State Secretariat At Embassy

Issue 04, January 24, 2010

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On January 19, 2010, the leaders and cadres of the UCPN-Maoist have held rallies at the entrance to the state secretariat and at the entrance to the Indian embassy in Kathmandu to protest the unconstitutional move of the President on directly writing a letter to the army chief overriding the decision of the then Prime Minister on firing him, and the Indian encroachment on the Nepalese territory, the unequal Nepal-Indian Treaty of 1950, and huge trade imbalance with India and so on.

Speaking at the rallies, the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist have said that the Indian interferences in the Nepalese affairs have been the hurdles to the peace process, and writing a new constitution. Currently visiting Nepal Indian COAS Deepak Kapoor has told the Nepalese COAS Chatraman Gurung while in the India-visit not to integrate the People’s Liberation Army into the Nepal Army thus instigating against the peace process, as the integration of the two armies is the part of the peace process. So, the Maoist leaders have been demanding to end the Nepal-India Treaty of 1950 and develop new relations with India in view of the current political situation. They have also been for ending the Indian encroachment on the Nepalese territory. They have also said that they are ready to make additional sacrifices for ending the Indian interferences in the Nepalese affairs.
