February 28, 2011: hearing on the corruption case filed by the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against Executive Chairman of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) Sugat Ratna Kansakar on December 24, 2010, the Special Court has asked Kansakar for a bail amount of Rs 60 millions, and has sent him to the police custody for not being able to deposit the bail amount.
CIAA has charged Kansakar and his five colleagues at work with abusing his authority paying non-refundable advance money to the European Airbus Company without making a budget arrangement for an aircraft purchase deal of Rs 10 billion. All of other five members of the NAC management have paid the bail money and are free.
CIAA needs to implicate the former Minister for Tourism and former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal in this case and prosecute them for it because they were the most responsible persons for pushing the NAC management to make a deal with the aircraft company.
