Sorry, Not Mean to Hurt People: Jha

On July 29, 2008, after five days of students’ protest against the first Vice-President of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Parmananda Jha took the oath of office in Hindi disregarding the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007, ultimately gave in and responded to the students’ demand for apology. Mr. Jha said that he used the Hindi with good intention, not for undermining the nation, nationality and national sovereignty; he has respect for national language Nepali and other national languages of Nepal; he did not intend to hurt the nation, nationality, sovereignty and esteem of Nepalis. He said sorry for hurting some Nepalese people’s feelings taking the oath of office in Hindi. He disclosed that despite taking oath in Hindi he signed off the oath in Nepali.
On July 29, immediately after the public apology of the Vice-president the eight students’ unions called off the shutdown protest against the Vice-president taking oath in Hindi.
