Central committee meetings of CPN-Maoist and CPN-UML

Issue 41, October 14, 2007

On Saturday, October 06, 2007, the central committee meeting of the CPN-Maoist decided to go for protest rallies if the special session of the interim legislature would fail in declaring Nepal a republic and adopt an electoral system that would ensure proportional representation of all Nepalis in a to-be-elected Constituent Assembly (CA). The CPN-Maoist also decided to hold a protest rally at the headquarters of all the 75 districts, and would picket the Singhdurbar, the cabinet secretariat on October 11. The special session of the interim legislature would begin on October 11, 2007.

On Saturday, October 06, 2007, the central committee meeting of the CPN-UML in a statement said, “The suspension of the election timetable has imperiled the 12-point agreement between the Maoists and other political parties, the comprehensive peace agreement, interim constitution and the entire peace process.” It also said, “The historic opportunity to organize CA elections has been missed due to anti-election thoughts, behavior and obduracy of the Maoists combined with the inaction of the Prime Minister.” The meeting affirmed that the party’s note of dissent on seven-party decision to suspend the poll process was rightful.
