CPN-UML To Stay Aloof From Voting In PM Elections

Issue 32, August 08, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 8, 2010: speaking at a function held by the CPN-UML party’s liaison special coordinating committee in Kathmandu, today, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that a majority government will not complete the major tasks before the nation; his party is in favor of forming a national consensus government that will complete the ongoing peace process and constitution writing, as the peace process and the constitution writing cannot not be completed on schedule without a national consensus government; "Be it a Maoist-led or a NC-led, no majority government will conclude peace and constitution writing processes," Khanal said, "The extended tenure of the Constituent Assembly for promulgating the new constitution will be meaningless if a majority government is formed," ‘The Rising Nepal’ of August 8, 2010 reports. He has also said that his party has never been after power; he has pulled out of the prime ministerial contest despite garnering a clear majority because his party gives a priority to complete the peace and constitution writing by forming a consensus government.

The next round of prime ministerial election will be held on August 18, 2010.
