Nepal Government Signs Another Deal With UCPN-Maoist

January 14, 2011: officiating Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda have signed a three-point agreement on setting up a six-member team to monitor the arms and armies of the People’s Liberation Army and the Nepal Army after the departure of UNMIN from Nepal ending the uncertainty of the critical issue of monitoring the two armies. As the result of the deal, both the armies will stay on in their respective place ending the possible conflict in the worst situation after UNMIN winds down on January 15, 2011.

Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that both the government and his party have agreed on following the previous agreements, and working on the consensus politics for completing the peace process; they also have agreed on thanking UNMIN for working on the peace process in Nepal for four years.

What will happen after the departure of the UNMIN from Nepal has been the main concern for all Nepalis and the International Community working in Nepal. This fresh deal between the government and the UCPN-Maoist has ended the uncertainty and has been the hope for all concerned that the peace process will complete and the political stability will prevail in Nepal.
