Death Threat To Dr. Bhattarai

May 17, 2011: members of the People Liberation Army responsible for the security of one of the vice-chairmen of UCPN-Maoist Dr. Baburam Bhattarai have been upset after they received the death threats to Dr. Baburam Bhattarai from the rival group of the Labor Union of the Anna casino in Kathmandu.
Immediately after receiving the death threats, Dr. Bhattarai has informed the Minister for Home Krishna Bahadur Mahara and General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, and has asked for additional security.
Receiving death threats from the Maoist for others has not been a surprise in the past but Vice-chairman of the UCPN-Maoist receiving death threats from his own cadres is certainly surprise to us all. We hope that Vice-chairman Dr. Bhattarai would not lose his life at the hands of the dissident cadres of his own party.
In fact, killings for power and for revenge have been regular practice among the communists particularly the Maoists in the past. We thought that the cadres of the UCPN-Maoist have discarded violence after the end of the civil war and the Maoists joining the mainstream politics but death threats to Dr. Bhattarai has shown that certainly they have not.
